The much-awaited MTV Video Music Awards was held at New York‘s Radio City Music Hall earlier today. Going into the show, the most-nominated artists were Cardi B, The Carters (Beyoncé and JAY-Z), Drake and Childish Gambino.

It turned out to be a simple ceremony with a brief memorial for the late soul singer Aretha Franklin. The VMA’s aired without a host running the show as creators of the event wanted the music to really be the focus. Let us take a look at some of the noteworthy performances and winners of the night.

Noteworthy Performances:

The awards kicked off with Cardi B’s performance, her first one since she gave birth to her daughter Kulture.
