Dive into Klimt’s paintings at Paris’ first digital art gallery

The beautiful patterns in the feathers of a peacock, the corals of the sea, the branches of trees, clouds in the sky, in fields of wildflowers – swirls and bursts of colour in nature have inspired artists for ages. One such artist is GUSTAV KLIMT.

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is the Austrian artist famous for his eye-popping patterns and metallic colour. He went to the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts (Kunstgewerbeschule) where he studied architectural paintings.

Klimt initially achieved praise as a historical painter and was commissioned to paint walls and ceilings of theatres, museums, and churches. You can see his murals in the Burgtheater, Vienna today.

He evolved, or changed, as he grew, and later on celebrated the female body as the subject of a lot of his artwork. He also used a lot of interesting materials like gold-leaf and metal in his paintings. Unfortunately, like most artists, his work became popular only after his death. Some of Klimt’s most famous works include:

The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I

These and several of his other works are presently on display at the Atelier des Lumières, the first digital art gallery in Paris. Klimt’s important paintings are presented in a 30-minute light-show. Using new digital technology, his artwork is splashed onto large walls through 120 video-projectors! The enlarged paintings magically appear and the characters in his paintings like flowers and branches keep appearing and disappearing to Richard Wagner, Chopin and Beethoven’s music. Viewers are literally immersed in Klimt’s magical colorful canvas!

If you happen to be in Paris in the next few months, visit this magical space where you can be immersed into the beautiful works of this great artist.
