Good news for planet earth! There’s a big movement growing against the use of plastic across the world. What’s more—big companies, as well as governments, are also joining in! This positive attitude regards environmental change goes a long way. Like the kind, we saw with the return of the Olive Ridley Turtles to Versova Beach in Mumbai!
But first, let’s understand what’s plastic and its uses…
Plastic is made out of oil and when used properly it’s actually a super cool material. It is even considered revolutionary as it is easy and cheap to make, and its uses are infinite. Some of the awesome things it’s used for are medical instruments, cell phones, irrigation pipes etc.
Single-use plastic items such as straws, plastic bags, plastic cups etc. are especially harmful and wasteful. As people use them only once and then discard. Being non-biodegradable plastic doesn’t disappear but ends up polluting our oceans, cities, countryside and causes massive environmental issues for animals and humans alike.
Some cool changes occurring around the world:
Look around your room and see all the things that are made out of plastic. Do you see any “single-use” plastic items like straws or Ziploc bags you can do without? By changing even just one small habit you can help make a big difference for our planet!
