Most of you have heard of Facebook and Instagram. They are social media sites. What is a social media site? It is a digital platform that people use to connect with others, share updates, photographs, videos and to form social networks. These platforms are used by individuals and businesses.

Some of the other popular social media sites include Pinterest, YouTube and Snapchat. All these platforms are vying to keep young users in their teens interested in them. They want you to come and spend time on their platforms.

Today’s young users are very clued into YouTube because they enjoy watching all sorts of videos – sports highlights, their favourite vloggers, tv shows, DIY videos and much more!

Instagram is known as THE platform for people to share pictures and some short length videos. To attract younger users interested in consuming longer videos, Instagram has launched Instagram TV (IGTV).

With the new feature, Instagrammers can:

  • view videos in vertical formats that fill the whole screen, unlike youtube videos.
  • automatically watch content from people they follow and others they might like based on their interests.
  • can set up channels and attract likes and followers

Instagram already has one billion users that spend almost an hour on Instagram every day! But it looks like they are competing for more! Instagram launched Insta Stories back in 2016 to compete with Snapchat ability to instantly engage people! That was a super success. Let’s see if Instagram TV can challenge YouTube!
