North Korea has been in the news. It is a small country in East Asia. Kim Jong-un is the supreme leader of North Korea. It is known to be a very secretive, closed country with very few friends. The country has been building nuclear weapons.
In the recent past, the North Korea regime tested their long-range missiles that could reach Japan and the United States. Countries around the world are concerned, specifically US, Japan, South Korea.
As a warning, officials from the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council put sanctions on North Korea. By imposing sanctions, the U.N. will make it difficult for the nation to sell products such coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore, and seafood in other countries. These restrictions on North Korean exports and other restrictions could cost the country about $1 billion in revenue.
The US and North Korea have also sent threats back and forth. North Korea has warned the US that it would use its weapons on a US territory, called Guam. In return, the US President has warned to retaliate with “fire and fury”.
So far there have been exchanges of tough words! Most world leaders would prefer to keep it this way. China, an ally of North Korea is encouraging all parties to be cautious in their words and actions.
