Yesterday, Spain saw one of its most violent days in recent times. Several incidents that occurred in the country appeared to look like a coordinated terrorist attack.
What happened? One of Barcelona’s most popular and touristy streets is called Las Ramblas. On Thursday, a van deliberately ran over pedestrians. At least 13 people died, and more than 80 were injured. The police have detained few suspects that they believe are linked to the attack.
Hours later, there was another attack in the coastal town of Cambrils, which is 120 km south of Barcelona. A car with 5 suspects injured some pedestrians. The authorities killed the 5 terror suspects in the car in Cambrils.
Officials say the incidents were terrorist attacks. A terrorist group called ISIS says it is responsible for the attacks

The world stands united behind Spain. Many leaders have pledged their support and solidarity. The spire at One World Trade Centre in New York, USA was lit in the colours of the Spanish flag. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France went dark in mourning to honour the victims of the attack.
Spanish soccer star Lionel Messi also sent his condolences to the people affected by the attack. “We will not surrender,” he said. “There are much more of us who want to live in a peaceful world.”
