Trump’s 100 day Score Card

The first 100 days of a new President are considered critical to measure the success of the new President. It sets the tone for the rest of his/her term. Donald Trump completed his first 100 days as POTUS (President of the United States) on April 29.

Is he on well on his way to making “America great again” or has he stumbled in the first 100 days?

One thing is for certain, Donald Trump’s first 100 days has been full of action and in many of these actions, President Trump has contradicted what he had promised during his election speeches.

All through his campaign he criticized the Obama administration of getting involved in Syria but not being able to defeat ISIS, but he could not resist when Bashar carried out a chemical attack on innocent people in rebel strongholds in Syria. The US attack was lauded by most because Trump stood up for what was right instead of worrying about the political fallout.

At home in the US, he tried to amend two laws but failed in doing so.

  • First he tried to repeal and replace Obamacare, the healthcare law that President Obama put into place in 2010. He could not garner consensus in his own Republican party to draft the new law.
  • Second, he twice tried to ban all visitors and immigrants from 7 Muslim countries but both times the government was over-ruled by the Courts. The real strength of the American democracy was showcased and the vulnerability of the POTUS was exposed.

Trump has also not followed through on some important campus promises in his first 100 days. Some examples are: not yet implemented a wall at the Mexican border; not sent Hillary to jail as he promised several times; not implemented tax reform yet; not implemented a plan to defeat ISIS

There were some controversies that would not go away either. His team’s proximity to Russian diplomats is being investigated by several agencies. His Twitter rants continue and include blaming Obama of tapping his phones – this was later proven false.

Overall, Trump’s first 100 days have been exciting with a lot of action but the results are not apparent even to his most ardent supporters.
