One of Donald Trump’s controversial orders as brand new President of the United States in January this year, was to ban people from 7 countries from entering the US for 90 days, while he figured out what to do about admitting refugees into the US. He said that this was to try and protect America from terrorists entering the country.
These 7 banned countries all have a majority of Muslim people living in them. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Somalia are all on this list. People started calling this the Muslim Ban, and Trump got a lot of negative attention for singling out people of a certain religion. A lot of people spoke out against this order. American authorities also refused to accept this order and did not let it be enforced. On March 6, 2017, Trump offered version 2 of this order. He took Iraq off this list. He also said that this is a temporary ban until he reviews America’s rules for letting in refugees.
So what happened to Version 2 of the Muslim Ban? We really do live in interesting times! A federal Judge in America blocked Trump’s new Muslim Ban from being enacted. He said that although it has some mild changes from the first travel ban, it was not different enough, and still discriminates against people of a religion or nationality. Donald Trump is not very happy about this as it makes him look weak. Let’s see what he does next!
