The state of Kerala in India is experiencing a very heavy monsoon. The land there has also been changing due to deforestation. The combination has been devastating.
Rivers are overflowing, roads and runways are waterlogged, and there are landslides and major floods in the area. Houses are submerged. The Army, Navy, and disaster relief groups have gone in to rescue people and to move them to relief camps on higher ground.
There are many things that will be needed to help the people of Kerala – food, drinking water, clothes, blankets, medical supplies, and many more things.
Here are ways in which you and your parents can help:
- The Kerala Chief Minister has a Relief Fund. Access it through this link that Paytm has set up: https://paytm.com/helpinghand/kerala-cm-s-distress-relief-fund.
- Visit https://www.ketto.org/ to see fund raising campaigns from charities like Goonj, Rapid Response and Habitat for Humanity. They are working hard to get food, water, and shelter for people affected by the floods in Kerala.
We hope that the rain slows down soon and that the people get some relief.
