DNA is an acronym for deoxyribonucleic acid. This is the code that every cell in your body has the exact same copy of. This code is what you get from your parents and they from theirs, and so on. This genetic code decides the way you look and some of your talents, likes and dislikes.
Computer code is a series of 1s and 0s. Genetic code is a sequence of chemical bases A, C, G, and T. These letters are short for Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, and Thymine. These bases pair up (A with T, G with C) and then make a sequence that is 3 billion base pairs long!
Here’s the interesting part: 99% of the code is the same in all human beings. WHAT???? We are all so different from each other! That’s right but our differences all come from that 1%!
What is a chromosome? A chromosome is a collection of genes in the human body. Each human has 23 pairs of chromosomes, one pair of which, called the sex chromosomes, defines whether you are a boy or a girl. You get one of each from each of your parents.
