What a weekend this has been for sports enthusiasts around the world. Saturday saw Angelique Kerber beat Serena Williams to bag her first Wimbledon title, 6-3, 6-3. Sunday saw Novak Djokovic beat Kevin Anderson to win his 13th Grand Slam title and 4th Wimbledon title. And then there’s football! The World Cup is over and there’s a new World Champion in France!

Let’s talk about the tennis:

Women’s Singles Finals: The crowd was rooting for Serena Williams as this was her first big tournament since she had her baby 10 months ago. Alas, it was not her day, and Angelique Kerber played amazingly well and won in 2 straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. This is now the first time that a German has won the Women’s Singles title since Steffi Graf won last in 1996!

Men’s Singles Finals: South African Kevin Anderson was no match for the talented Novak Djokovic. The first 2 sets were like a walk in the park for Djokovic, with him winning them 6-2, 6-2. Then Kevin Anderson found his groove and took him to a tie break in the 3rd set which he then lost, 7-6.

What was Djokovic so excited about? He was delighted that his little 3 year old son Stefan was allowed to come in and watch him get his trophy. He said this is the first major tournament that he has played where he had a special fan yelling ‘Daddy, daddy!’ out to him!
