Wait, we understand your excitement… but Sachin Tendulkar isn’t making a return to cricket. It’s time for his son Arjun Tendulkar to shine as the 18-year-old has been picked up for the under-19 India team that will play 5 one-day internationals & 2 four-day matches in Sri Lanka in July.

When you have the batting legend Sachin as your father you are bound to be scrutinised by everyone in this cricket crazy nation. Arjun Tendulkar has been facing the media since the day he was born. The first time Arjun picked up a bat or the first time he went to school has been reported in depth by the Indian media.

Born in 1999, Arjun started playing cricket early on. He is a left-arm fast bowler and a useful middle order batsman, unlike his father who would bat right-handed and bowl spin. Arjun played for the Mumbai cricket team and has represented them in the under-14, 16 & 19 categories. You might recall that Sachin made his international test debut at the age of 16.

Arjun has grown up to be a tough 6-foot 1-inch tall pacer who regularly clocks over 135 km per hour which is a seriously good pace for an 18-year-old. But it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Arjun, his coach Atul Gaikwad revealed that Tendulkar junior suffered from back to back stress fractures. But just like his father, Arjun bounced back from injuries & got selected for the Under 19 India squad.

Interestingly, Arjun doesn’t idolise his father but considers English all-rounder Ben Stokes & Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc as his role-models. In his numerous overseas stints as a left-arm quick bowler, Arjun has got people talking about him purely on the basis of his talent rather than his surname. Based on what he has achieved till date, Arjun is clearly on the right track. We wish him luck!
